When Northern punks Bear Trade called it a day after two albums and gigs all over the world, something special rose from the ashes. With three quarters of the band opting to keep playing together – Lloyd (bass), Callum (guitar) and Peter (drums) – they were joined by Helen (vocals/guitar), a hugely talented folk/country singer-songwriter with a distinctive, soaring and melody-soaked style to her vocals. Out of this blend of powerful punk rock and folk/country storytelling and singing comes a new band and a new vision.
Misfortune Cookie’s debut LP ‘Heavy Seas’ takes its title from a photo used on the front cover that Lloyd took. “It's from Scarborough North Bay looking out over the North Sea. ‘Heavy Seas’ seemed a perfect metaphor for the times we currently live in, and the views and experiences within the songs.”
