Countdown to MPF: Spaced Interview

Spaced are a hardcore band from Buffalo, NY. Labelling themselves as “far out hardcore”, we had the opportunity to watch them play a Moving North show in Manchester last year. They released their first demo back in 2021 and we are buzzing to include them at MPF2024 We had a quick chat with singer Lexi.

How would you introduce yourselves to a punk fan who’s not heard of you yet?

We’re Spaced, we’re from Buffalo, New York, and if you like to dance you’ll like our music.

Which of your songs/releases are you most proud of, and why?

Our upcoming album is definitely what I’m most proud of. I think the band as a whole can agree it’s something we all worked really hard on and think it’s our best sounding release yet. We spent a lot of time working on it and have been itching to get the new stuff out there for everyone to listen to!

Tell us a secret about your band.

Our album “Spaced Jams” was actually named by Scott Vogel of Terror; he told Donny (guitarist of Spaced) and myself we should release something called “Spaced Jams” in reference to the Looney Tunes movie “Space Jam.”

What was the first gig you ever went to?

My first concert was at the New York State Fair in 2010 to see Justin Bieber with Sean Kingston and Iyaz. I was 14 years old and had the time of my life!

Who would be in your supergroup?

This depends on the genre cause if we’re talking hardcore/punk, I want some heavy hitters like Brendan Yates from Turnstile on drums, Jon Lhaubouet from Vein on guitar, Sarah Tolley from Sign Language also on guitar, me on bass (I’m learning to play the bass!), and Justice Tripp from Trapped Under Ice doing vocals.

But if we’re talking pop supergroup; Charli XCX, Pink Pantheress, Megan Thee Stallion, Yunjin from Le Sserafim, and myself. I just know we’d be writing some bangers.

If you were a biscuit/cookie, what would you be and why?

Probably a cookie! Not a super overly sweet cookie, but a nice lemon lavender cookie of sorts. Something you can have with a cup of coffee or tea.

Oasis or Blur?

Oasis all the way.

Too much ska or too little ska?

Too much ska…I hate to say it, but I could never get into the genre. It is fun to see live though!

Dogs or Cats?

I grew up with dogs and will always love dogs, but I have a soft spot for cats. Can I say both? Cause I’m gonna say both!

Who’s your favorite superhero?

Spider-Man! I love Peter Parker’s personality and the Spider-Man movies are all great. Same with the video games!

Help us settle the age-old bread debate. What do you call a roll / cob / bap / barm / batch / muffin / other (specify)?

I fear I’m too American for this question…

Finally, which bands are you most excited to see at MPF2024?

I’m excited to see Hot Water Music, our friends in Shooting Daggers, and Clobber!
